Top 5 Ways to Keep YOUR Personal Bacteria Healthy: Love thy Friendly Bugs

5

With trillions upon trillions of microbes in your stomach, most estimates reveal that FIVE solid POUNDS of your gut are pure bacteria. Needless to say, these little bugs are necessary for preventing and curing EVERY disease known to man.

Last time, we learned about the RISKS of having weak human flora (including flu, herpes, auto-immune disorders, and every variety of cancer). The GOOD news is that there are proven ways to influence a happy internal human environment. Let’s start from the beginning…

You want to AVOID this: The (Red) invader called Salmonella

1. Vaginal Birth: NO C-SECTION!!!!

As you slid out your mothers vaginal canal, you acquired unique bacteria as a gift from your mom. This bacteria is especially important for the immune system and healthy development.

On the other hand, if you were born via C-Section, you missed out on a lot of beneficial bacteria — therefore it is wise for C-Section babies to supplement with additional probiotics such as Lactobacillus and Bifidus strains.

2. Breastmilk as a baby. Formula just isn’t the same…

Mother’s milk is naturally one of the most anabolic (promoting metabolism) substances ever created. It contains vitamins, minerals, essential fatty acids, amino acids, and of course, BACTERIA! Breastfead babies get a jumpstart both in life and in health.

An activity to be enjoyed in all stages of life

3. Eat a balanced diet. The key is to promote healthy pH balance.

When a person is in a -Diseased State- they surely have an unhealthy pH balance in the body. The optimal human pH is 7.0. Lower than that is considered acidic, whereas greater than 7.0 classifies as alkaline. Remember, balance is key.

Bodies that are in an Acidic pH state are more likely to host TOXIC life forms such as Candida Albicans — the yeast responsible for 90%+ of vaginal yeast infections. These unhealthy bacteria and yeasts THRIVE in an acidic environment because healthy bacteria is killed or physically pushed out.

What contributes to a (negative) Acidic pH in your body?

  • Drinking alcohol
  • Eating lots of meat
  • Unhealthy fats
  • Caffeine and other drugs
  • Not sleeping enough!
  • And more…(I will revisit this specific topic in a future post)

Candida Albicans infecting the Tongue: YUCK!

Above: Candida Albicans (aka Thrush) infecting the Tongue. Same Yeast responsible for Vaginal Infections.

To help PREVENT THIS: Understand that MOST VEGETABLES are Alkaline forming in the body. Vegetables are very good for us, on a microbial AND chemical level.

If you’re curious, you can test your body’s pH using saliva pH strips sold at supplement stores (Enzymatica produces a good product for that).

4. Feed your Healthy Bacteria with PREbiotics. Prebiotics act as a food source for your healthy flora.

Prebiotics are NOT digested by your gastrointestinal tract. Instead, prebiotic substances travel all the way to your colon to be fermented by happy bacteria.

Prebiotics
-Relieve Constipation
-Balance intestional pH
-Restore intestinal bacterial balance, which GREATLY supports immune system as a result.

Prebiotics will:

  • Relieve Constipation
  • Balance intestional pH
  • Restore intestinal bacterial balance, greatly BOOSTING immune system.
Examples of Prebiotics:
  1. Inulin,
  2. Fructo-oligosaccharides (FOS),
  3. Polydextrose,
  4. Arabinogalactan,
  5. Polyols—lactulose,
  6. lactitol

These Prebiotics can be found in the following sources for consumption:

Whole grains, onions, bananas, garlic, honey, leeks, artichokes, fortified foods and beverages, and dietary supplements

Take home point: Eat healthy, whole foods with plenty of dietary fiber, and you probably will get enough prebiotics. However, if you feel you need more of a boost, you can buy FOS and Inulin at nearly every health/supplement store.

…and finally…

…the TOP way to promote healthy human body ecology…

5. Regular Dietary Consumption of PRObiotics. Probiotic means “For Life” because of the integral function in our cells.

Probiotics are ALIVE, these are foods or supplements with living, active bacteria that supports health and immunity.

Consume probiotics on a regular basis, and you WILL notice an improvement in quality of life.
