The Sugar Addiction: A dozen donuts just for me?

Sweet taste of sugar on my tongue, and then I’ve lost control…

What is freedom — is it the ability to purchase the sweetest, most refined carbohydrates that never existed in nature?

Hi, My name is AndrΓ© and I battle a sugar addiction.

I first realized that I had a problem when I was 16 years old; this particular year gave me the freedom to drive to the store and make my own food choices.

I’ll have a donut, actually make it a dozen donuts.

Within moments, I was leaving the store with my latest purchase: A dozen donuts for me, and for me alone.

I’ll have one, and save the rest for later. But it never works out that way.

Eating the first donut was like describing a sensual passion between Tiger Woods and his sport: I just couldn’t get enough of it.

Sugar is like a parasite, it steals your nutrition away from you.

As you can imagine, I had no appetite after my 8th donut, therefore I had no room for actual nutrients.

When sugar takes the place of nutrient-dense foods, your body gets scared.

Our bodies are not used to empty refined calories. Like anything in fear-mode, nothing is efficient. Your body holds on to more body fat, while destroying your lean muscle. If you don’t weigh very much, you become skinny-fat. And the rest of us just get fat.

Strategies to fight sugar addiction.

  • If you desire sugar, eat a cup of broccoli first. For example, broccoli provides fiber, calcium, and other nutrients necessary for your body.
  • Consume fruit in between meals. This will keep you satiated and hopefully not craving anymore sweets. Grapefruit is great!
  • Bypass the sweets aisle in the grocery store if you don’t buy it, you can’t consume it.
  • Challenge yourself: See what its like to go without sugar for Just One Day.
  • Set realistic weight loss goals: Do you really want to lose five pounds?
  • Food is all relative…healthy food is mind blowing when you release from sugar lust.

It’s like putting down Maxim magazine — the women in real life become beautiful again.

Today is an example. The pink grapefruit I had before lunch was the most succulent, juicy piece of fruit I have had all day. The fantastically natural citrus smell aroused my senses moments before I bit into the nourishing flesh within.

I maintain my muscle mass, keep getting stronger in the gym, and am nice and lean. Sugar doesn’t have a place in this lifestyle.
