Brain Health, Memory, and Concentration: Nothing fishy about a healthy mind

Brain health reflects who you are as a person.

Our brains are the computers that send signals, receive pleasure, and allow us to follow our dreams. Without a healthy brain, you’re at risk for dementia, mental disease, Alzheimer’s, acute memory loss, fatigue, inability to concentrate, and depression.

So it makes sense to feed your brain with the right stuff!

Martek Biosciences Corp. developed an index to rate populations of all 50 states, and CONGRATS to my fellow Washingtonians in the Top 3 Healthiest Brain states, we really are as smart as they say.

Not surprisingly, the most obese states ranked worse for brain health, with Louisiana at the far bottom on the list. (View list)

How can I keep my brain healthy for life?

  1. Drink lots of pure water — at least 8 glasses per day.
  2. Make sure fruits and vegetables are a normal part of your diet: antioxidants key to brain health.
  3. Eat Wild Fish full of Omega-3 fatty acids. The Omega-3 fatty acid known as DHA will keep you sharp. Unfortunately, the American diet is largely missing in Omega-3’s. Most people should supplement with Fish Oil to get enough Omega-3’s.

Keeping your brain healthy is a lifestyle

  • Avoid smoking, alcohol, and drugs which can degrade the brain (among much more…)
  • Exercise regularly!
  • Socialize with friends. Humans are a social and emotional species, it is in our nature to spend time with others.
  • Challenge your mind by learning new things, solving puzzles, and using your creativity.
  • Reduce stress — we all have our own ways. Yoga, meditation, praying, cooking, exercising, etc.

Treat your brain well, and your brain shall treat you well.

Clarity of thought is a gift that I give to myself everyday, by eating healthy, exercising, and continually growing as a person. Healthy hobbies…working out, writing  a positive health blog, and making healthy food more gourmet than ever before.

Joy to the world, and to brains everywhere.

Whey Protein, Fitness and Your Health

What is one of the easiest, safest, and most sustainable ways to burn fat, build muscle, and boost overall health?

Show Me The WHEY!

Show Me The WHEY!

Even though Whey Protein is incredibly common among athletes, nearly every active person can benefit from the additional source of rich protein.

Why Protein

  1. Highly concentrated source of protein
  2. Loaded with amino acids
  3. VERY high in Branched Chain Amino Acids
  4. LOW FAT, LOW CARBS
  5. Efficient digestion, makes it great for post-workout energy recovery.
  6. Affordable
  7. Boosts Immune System due to amino acids

How Do I Use Whey Protein For Weight Loss?

  • Take 20g whey in the morning
  • Consume 20g whey immediately following any physical activity
  • Get creative: Blend with fruits, berries, and yogurt for the ultimate lean power shake.

For Gaining Muscle…

  • Calculate the amount of protein you usually consume in a day. If you aren’t getting at least 150 grams protein per day, then fill in the deficit with Whey Protein throughout the day.
  • Morning: Whey Protein is great to fuel the beginning of your day by putting your muscles in positive nitrogen balance (so that you build muscle, instead of waste it)
  • Post workout: Use a mixture of Whey Protein + Simple Carbohydrates (1:2 ratio of Protein::Carbs) for the ULTIMATE in recovery. You can gain some serious strength by boosting your insulin (most anabolic hormone) levels post-workout with carbs, which helps to shuttle protein nutrients straight to your muscles.

Depending how you use it, Whey Protein is a beneficial supplement for Weight Loss, Muscle Growth, Energy, and Boosting the Immune System.

Whey is the way to go for fitness results!

World Instructor Training Schools W.I.T.S. for Experience

Fitness has been my passion for half a decade, inspiring mind-body connection for personal growth and strength from within.

Experience by W.I.T.S.

Experience by W.I.T.S.

I recently began classes for the only certification program of its kind based out of local colleges and involving practical experience from a comprehensive internship. My instructor, Eric, offers over 16 years of fitness industry experience and I find his natural health values inspiring. I already see myself referring people to him in the future for his creative ways of inspiring fitness through dance.

All green trainers need a legitimate certification to really advance as a Personal Trainer.

Some certifications only require a mere study guide and a $400 multiple choice exam. How well will that prepare someone to trust your life in their hands?

I do believe book knowledge is important, but I know that the value of the individual is based on experience and skills as well. Thats why I will learn, hands-on, in the WITS certification program through Seattle Central Community College.

The value of W.I.T.S. is revealed by bringing together individuals from the community for common, yet creatively unique approaches.

Once I complete this course, I will have grown my knowledge and experience in exercise physiology and kinesiology, fitness assessment, and ability to customize individual programs through safe demonstrations of form by understanding flexibility and AHA cardiovascular recommendations.

Even though my Saturday’s are currently packed with 12 hours of work, business, and education, my passion continues to light the way. Oh yea, and all natural oatmeal gives me lots of energy too.

I manifest ability to learn and communicate as well as passion for fitness into the dream that I thrive to live.

By age 25, I will have helped Americans BURN OVER A THOUSAND POUNDS of FAT, while opening opportunities for quality of life that they never knew existed.

Stay tuned for more…

Treat me Like a Dog, until…

It’s five o’clock pm in the Johnson household, and family tension begins to be realized on this not-so-unusual night.

Stomping and stamping his feet, little Jimmy refuses to eat his broccoli. Unacceptable. The man of the house, Big Ben, is about to teach this kid a little thing called Tough Love.

Audible to the entire neighborhood, “COME HERE, KID!” sounded like the roar of a lion in the wild. Big Ben was boss around here, and what he says goes.

Little Jimmy reluctantly yields to his fathers command, only to be met by painful spanking on his back. This has happened before, so Jimmy suffers one hit at a time while waiting for his life when the pain will finally subside.

Maxim #1: If you treat it like an animal, expect it to behave like one.

Since we connect through shared emotions with our dog companions, they are thought of as man’s best friend. But, dogs do not speak English.

The strength of people is our ability to communicate with each other.

If my kid didn’t want to eat broccoli, I would view it as an opportunity to lead conversation about Broccoli!

Nooo, dont eat meeee

"Nooo, don't eat meeee"

Promote connection by asking him thoughtful questions that encourage much deeper answers than, “I don’t like broc.” Yea, I used to not like broccoli. I used to not like girls either. Ironic, now that broccoli helps me get the girls today.

The point is that while I may not be entirely happy with my future son’s behavior all the time, I will take each broccoli scenario and turn it into a mutually beneficial one. Maybe he won’t eat broccoli on that particular night, but he’ll take away lessons of life, communication, and the hopefully the love of chopped florets.

Holistic Health accepts our vulnerabilities, and knows this moment now, and the next one too, is an opportunity for human potential.

The world is what you make of it, imagine what it’s like to realize potential in everything and everyone.
