5 Methods of Progression you can use to get Fitness Results Today

Always seek progression in Fitness.

Sure, there is a stereotype that trainers are always trying to get their female clients to lift heavier and to get everybody in general to work harder. If both clients and trainers can buy-in on the idea that progressive resistance is crucial for results, then together our work is more effective.

“You always have to go heavier,” is a Big Myth!

Not everybody can, will, or should continue to go heavier on various exercises. That being said, going heavier than your last effort on a particular exercise is one of the most obvious methods of progression and yes, it will work. So when you can, try to go heavier because you’ll burn more fat, tone the body, and gain confidence.

Brief insight into Dre’s Nutrition Philosophy

Let’s start with a brief overview and then we’ll dig deeper in the upcoming weeks and months.

When I was younger, I took a physical health class at a local college that changed my life. I learned about the basics of calories in vs calories out and then with the guidance of the instructor, I set physical goals for myself. I started out by walking a single mile in the neighborhood, over the next days, I would run the mile, then I would run/walk two miles and so on. At my peak, I could go out and run a half marathon anytime, no big deal — I slimmed down dramatically.

Over time, I’ve learned and come to appreciate so much more about food. I love food. Loving food is not an excuse to eat poorly! Take a quick look at my background over the last decade or so. We’ll be posting about more in depth topics soon (less about me, more about you).

Weight Loss vs. Fat Loss

Why is the scale your worst enemy?

When it comes to losing weight, the fastest way (and least safe) is to dehydrate yourself to lose water weight. But this is pointless, because you need water for all of life’s functions.

People spend too much time weighing themselves. There are body builders who look fantastic to me, but they still want to gain just 10 more pounds — just 10 more pounds. Another person I know wants to lose 15 pounds, they have made progress but recently it slowed down. The scale is messing with their minds.

Burn body fat, lose the right kind of weight.

Excess body fat, especially around the midsection, is unhealthy and uncomfortable. We want to lose body fat — and the best way to do it is by preserving everything else on your body.

Preserve your lean mass:

  • Lean muscle is essential for strength and energy
  • Lean muscle also looks GREAT!
  • Bone density, strong bones reduce risk of osteoporosis.
  • Organs, tissues, ligaments, and more..

Imagine losing half of your muscle, and very little fat. Not only will you look worse, but you would feel worse too.

Focus on fat loss

To really target fat specifically for weight loss, we need a balanced diet with exercise, rest, and social support.

What is the point of weighing yourself then?

Take pictures of your body for progress.

Listen to your body — how do you feel now? How do you feel when you eat a certain food? How much stronger are you now?

Heck with the scale.

Weight loss itself isn’t valuable unless the weight you lose is body fat.

Let’s burn fat with healthy nutrition and lifestyle.

Nutrition, Immunity, and Digestion

Are you doing everything right and STILL not losing weight?

It’s time to rethink your assumptions.

The most dangerous beliefs are those that slip through the radar.

A customer walked in today and wanted to see what options were available for weight loss. In fact, he wanted to lose his gut in 30 days for his upcoming trip to Europe.

We sell the typical fat burning pills, like Hydoxycut Hardcore, as well as healthier alternatives such as Green Tea pills and even better, Fiber pills (for regulating blood sugar).

His assumption was…”I just need to exercise more and I’ll lose the weight.”

But……

Food and Nutrition are 90% of weight loss.

So I asked the guy about what he eats. To me, his response was clear evidence as to why he was overweight in the first place.

Not only did he eat poorly, but he ASSUMED that he was eating well.

Challenge your assumptions

Challenge your assumptions

I have cereal for breakfeast.” Great, so I educated him on how cereal still raises blood sugar levels — and that Oatmeal is a superior choice. His response, “Oh yea, its oatmeal — I mean the cereal is oat-based.” My friend, oat-based is NOT oatmeal.

For his lunch and dinner, he was reluctant to give me the details. I wanted to help, but I knew that there was little I could do for him today.

If you aren’t at the ideal weight, then you aren’t eating as well as you can.

It’s that simple. You can always eat better. Heck, even I can always eat better.

One day at a time, vegetables, fruits, protein, and when I screw up I don’t lie to myself. A lapse in healthy eating will happen here and there — I accept it and move on.

The lesson is this:

Don’t be your own worst enemy.

Some people utilize my knowledge and totally transform their bodies. But only because they are willing to accept the TRUTH.

And sometimes, the truth is the only way to success.
